Artist Barbara Singer
masterfully employs oils and pastels to communicate her contemporary
vision of landscapes and flora. With the exception of a
drawing workshop at the University of California, Santa Barbara, she
is self-taught, eschewing painting classes as too constraining.
Barbara's images explode on the canvas with vivid energy-landscapes,
exacting in detail, are stunningly realistic, while the wild, loose
shapes and bold colors in her florals are electrifying.
Faced with the blank canvas,
Barbara allows a painting to evolve on its own, often times, if the
piece demands, using texture and other organic mediums to achieve
the feeling she desires. Dividing her time between homes in
the Palm Springs desert and the ocean community of Santa Barbara,
California, Barbara has the best of both worlds for artistic
inspiration.
Barbara's work has won awards in
national juried competitions, has been exhibited in California,
Oregon, New Mexico and Texas. She maintains
affiliations with the Pastel Society of America, California Art
Club, Oil Painters League of Ojai, Ojai Center for the Arts,
Audubon
Artists of NY, Oil Painters of America, Women Artists of the
West
(Signature Member), National Museum of Women, DC Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art
Club of NY
and the Palm Springs Desert Museum.
